This holiday couples photography session at ROW DTLA marked my first winter season session as a Southern California couples photographer. What began as a plan to photograph at a Christmas tree farm turned into a lesson in adaptability, location scouting, and how clear communication with clients creates a smoother experience, especially during the busy holiday season.
Once it became clear that many Christmas tree lots require advance reservations, pivoting was essential. ROW DTLA during the holiday season offers a festive and flexible location providing the perfect photo opps for all visitors, especially in my case for couples sessions in Downtown Los Angeles. Thoughtful location scouting and setting expectations ahead of time helped keep the experience relaxed and enjoyable.
This session reinforced how planning, problem-solving, and communication are just as important as the photos themselves. As a Santa Monica–based photographer who travels throughout Los Angeles and Southern California, this shoot left me excited for a more intentional and well-planned winter photography season in 2026.
